Research Services

I research families in the United States and Canada  primarily using the resources found in the LDS Family History Library in Salt Lake and internet sources, including subscription databases. While my specialty is Quebec Research, I have conducted searches for our family and for clients involving records in many areas of the U.S. and Canada--especially Iowa, Wisconsin, and Michigan in the Mid-West ,New York, Pennsylvania and New England in the U.S. and Ontario in Canada. Recent family research has included records in Texas and several southern states.  My Quebec research often involves searching U.S. records in order to determine names and Quebec locations for those who immigrated to the U.S. in order to locate the families in Quebec records. Most French-Canadians settled in either New England or the Mid-West when they first left Canada.

Fees:

I charge $30/hour which includes minor copying and postage fees. If these fees exceed $2.50/hour or it is necessary to order documents from other repositories, I will bill for the additional  charges.  Research time includes time spent on problem analysis and report writing as well as time examining and copying or extracting information from records.

I have a minimum fee of $60,  payable in advance. However unless you are trying to document only one event, it is difficult to accomplish any research objective in two hours. I would prefer to research in 4-8 hour time blocks ($120-$240).

Make checks payable to:  Beth Davies.   I also accept payment through Paypal

Requirements

In addition to your deposit, I need the following information to be able to complete your research:

1. A clear statement of what you would like me to accomplish.

2. Copies of documents you already have on the individual or family that you want researched. Family group sheets, pedigree charts, vital records, church records, census records, and family histories are some of the kinds of documents you might have in your possession. It is important that I see a photocopy of the actual documents, rather than just having a summary of their contents, as there may be clues in the documents that you have overlooked.

3. A list of all sources which have been previously searched for this individual or family, including those sources where no information was found, so that I don't duplicate previous research.
